Photovoltaic Up-conversion Using Core-shell Nanostructures

Core-shell upconverting nanostructures (CSUNs) increase the efficiency of multijunction photovoltaic cells by utilizing low-energy photons, rearranging the spectral distribution between cell layers, compensating for strain, and utilizing large band-gap materials which provide lower photon loss.
