Smart Fabric

General functionalization of fibers and fabrics using solution-synthesized quantum nanowires may be possible with this invention. Conformal coatings onto individual fibers can be achieved through certain physical and chemical approaches. Resulting nanowire-functionalized textiles consist of dense, conformal coatings and can be characterized for their UV-visible absorption as well as Raman activity. Potential applications include barcoding fibrous products and fiber-based photodetectors. Future applications may include medical, anti-counterfeiting and photocatalytic applications.
