Rapid charge solid state Li-ion batteries

Description:

Who doesn’t want rapid-charging, safe lithium batteries? They are used in power tools, medical devices, aerospace, bicycles and cars, to name only a few applications. But, charging is normally better when done slowly. Now, researchers at the University of Notre Dame have conceived of a rapid-charging solid state lithium ion battery that would make charging very fast, providing a uniform and dense charge distribution. The resulting charge avoids development of mossy structures and dendrite formation which leads to poor performance and fire hazard. The technology is available for licensing.
