Diagnosis of inflammation from H&E staining images

Description:

Tissue samples are processed using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining techniques in order to generate histology tissue images for inflammatory disease diagnosis.  Conventionally, H&E stained histology tissue images are manually analyzed by a trained pathologist, which can be tedious and time consuming.  A computer automated image analysis system has been developed to identify features of the subcellular structures, such as the nucleus and cytoplasm.  This permits easy identification and differentiation of immune cell types.  Accurate segmentation of the subcellular structures can help classify cell types.  Gland villi and immune cells are then output to the user for further clinical use.
